Wedding Day Extras

When you're creating your wedding budget, don't forget to consider the extras.  These may be little things here and there, but they sure can add up.

• TAXES : Don't forget to figure in your sales tax. Always make sure sales tax is included in everything - you don't need any last minute surprises.

• DELIVERY : If you place a large order, or order several items from the same vendor, they are sometimes willing to negotiate or waive the shipping & handling costs.  Sometimes you can call on a favor from a friend or relative to cut the cost of delivery as well. One thing to stand firm on: THE CAKE MUST BE DELIVERED BY THE BAKERY! This way it's guaranteed to arrive in perfect condition.

• PERMITS : Did you factor in the cost of the permit to take your wedding pictures in a favorite park? Add them in. Are you having an outdoor wedding at a special location such as a beach, a park, historical monument? Consult your city/town for permit fees and availability.  Check with the town hall regarding the rules and know the price in advance.

• INSURANCE : Have you ever had to think of getting a ring insured? Now is a good time to insure all your jewelry, especially your wedding rings! Be advised that sometimes (depending on your policy) homeowners' or renters' insurance may cover your wedding gifts and new furniture. Nowadays many couples even obtain wedding day insurance due to the rise in outdoor (or home) weddings, especially if it's an unpredictable time of year.  If you choose to take this route, make sure you have a contract in writing (go over it thoroughly), and make sure it's from a reputable insurer (not a company who has sprung up over night).

• GRATUITY : There are several people to thank on your wedding day for services, so keep extra cash on hand. If you can prepare gratuity envelopes in advance, this is a great idea.  Delegate this job to the best man or a groomsman to take added stress off of yourself. Some people to keep in mind might include: the officiant, altar boys, organist(s), other added church fees (clean up of rice if used), or perhaps other ceremony attendants. Also, the maitre' d, waiters, bartenders, and table captains. Don't forget the driver/delivery people of your special day as well, but keep in mind you must look over your contracts before hand due to the fact that many companies have the gratuities written into the cost as a "service charge". Be Smart, check ahead, don't over tip!
